The Onassis Prizes are awarded to contemporary leading researchers in the fields of finance, international trade, and shipping.
The prizes are awarded once every three years to leading researchers in the fields of Finance, International Trade, and Shipping, the very fields in which Aristotle Onassis excelled. The prizes, $200,000 each, are awarded to academics of international range for the entire body of their work. Among the laureates of previous years is Eugene Fama, who was awarded the Onassis Prize in 2009 and then won the Nobel for Economics in 2013, as well as Gene Grossman, who is known for his research on the relationship between trade and economic development.
